About the Artist

Rachel Purcell is a self-taught animal artist, specializing in traditional oil portraits of horses. Rachel grew up on a beef cattle farm in Southeast Georgia, with a background in riding and showing horses of various breeds and disciplines. Rachel started drawing and painting horses at a very young age, referencing the illustrations and pictures in her favorite horse books, as well as drawing her own family's horses. A horse lover and equestrian herself, Rachel uses her horse knowledge and experience in creating her paintings, with careful attention to details such as conformation, color, tack, and markings.  Rachel now accepts a limited number of commissions and offers original paintings for purchase. Rachel also paints portraits of other livestock and pets such as cattle and dogs.  Commissions currently accepted.
